The business case for a project is the balance of costs against the expected benefits that will be derived from the delivered product, from a given date. Late delivery of a project, even at no extra project cost, will result in a loss of expected benefit to the client, with a possible consequential loss of customer confidence.
In dynamically complex projects the large number of varied, but interrelated, interfaces is a major project risk.
The significance of the functionality of the interfaces against their cost, the impact of them not being ready on time, and the fact that interfaces pick up the effects of any delays on either side of the boundary means that interfaces and their management (or lack of management) are critical to the success of the project.
